Last weekend around 200 residents of the Imereti Valley in Sochi, where it is planned to build Olympic objects by 2014, organized a protest action against eviction from their houses. The protest action went in a quiet atmosphere. All participants of the action were wearing t-shirts with a slogan “Don’t want to be legally homeless”.
The city authorities plan to demolish the houses in the Imereti Valley and build the Olympic village and sports objects there by the Olympic Games in 2014. The residents of the houses refuse to move out despite all conditions and guarantees given by the authorities. They continue to fear that under the pretence of preparation for the Olympics there will start construction of elite cottages instead of the Olympic objects.
The valley residents still do not know what houses will be demolished in particular.
“We are not against the Olympic Games but we have turned their hostages”, as one of the residents says.
