The famous Soviet ballet Flame of Paris is back on the Bolshoi Theatre repertoire. Once it was an absolute hit visited even by Joseph Stalin for at least 15 times and awarded with Stalin Prize.
Yesterday saw the premiere of the revived ballet, surely with full house.
The stage director of the present production is Aleksei Ratmanski, art director of the Bolshoi’s ballet company. He is absolutely sure that “heritage of the Bolshoi Theatre, both Russian and Soviet must become part of everyday ballet life”.
For the first time the ballet Flame of Paris by Boris Asafiev was staged by the Russian choreographer Vasili Vainonen in 1932 in Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theatre, and in 1933 it was shifted to the Bolshoi Theatre.
