Russia and Georgia are searching truth at international justice

Russia has accused Georgia of genocide of South Ossetian people, while Georgia has taken out a process against Russia, accusing it of ethnic cleansing, at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

As a result of the conflict in South Ossetia Russia has accused Georgia of the conscious heating up tension in relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Moscow tends to believe that Georgia threatens the security in South Caucuses. Russia has submitted a resolution to the UN Security Council, suggesting an agreement on the ban of using military forces by both conflict sides.

The Russian president has called the Georgian military actions in South Ossetia genocide. He has advised the prosecutor’s office ‘to collect and document the evidences of the crimes committed in South Ossetia to have enough information for criminal proceedings the people committed these crimes.’

‘The actions of the Georgian side were in a form which could be described only as genocide, as the Georgian military actions were large-scale and were against civilians,’ claimed the Russian president.

Moscow is concerned that Georgia is ruled by the aim of destroying the present structure of peacekeeping in the region and changing it with new mechanisms of regulation. Georgia used to claim it would like to change Russian peacekeepers for international contingent. Though the leaders of South Ossetia and Abkhazia stand for Russia’s remaining in the conflict zone.

Trying to find solution to the problem Moscow has committed a draft resolution on situation in Georgia.

At the same time Georgia has taken out a process against Russia, accusing it of ethnic cleansing, at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Georgia sais Russia has broken convention on liquidation of all forms of a racial discrimination using breakaway authorities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Georgian claim was given to the court by the Georgian ambassador in the Netherland and was accepted at once and the investigation has been started. The Georgian side has provided the court with evidences of Russia’s committing ethnic cleansing in the Georgian territory since 1993 up to 2008. Georgia insists on protecting the personal rights of all the people in the Georgian territory on the base of this convention.
