Icons by Famous Modern Masters Displayed in Moscow

Exhibition of icon painter Alexander Chashkin and wood carvers and sculptors Inessa and Rashid Azbukhanovs will open in Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery in the centre of Moscow, on August 26.
One of the authors of the holy images, Alexander Chashkin, started his creative activity in the mid 1980s. He painted churches in Moscow, Yasnaya Polyana, Samara, Ukraine and America.
The artist revives ancient Byzantine traditions that formed the basis of the Old-Russian icon-painting school. Antiquity and up-to-dateness are interwoven in his works. A master of icon-painting technique, he creates images clear and close to contemporary people. His icons are being kept with thanks by the families of Solzhenitsyn and Rostropovich - the curator of the exposition informs.
