Russian humanitarian aid to those suffered from the hurricane in Cuba will be delivered by four transport jets, says the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situation.
‘The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situation is sending four transport jets which will deliver tents for five thousand people, building materials (clay slate, glass, electric wire), food and living essentials,’ reports the Ministry.
The first two planes are planned to go to Cuba already this Wednesday.
The hurricane Gustav has destroyed about 86 thousand houses in the western province Pinar del Rio and the Isle of Youth. The gusts were registered to reach 300 km/h. The damage from the hurricane has reached hundreds of million US dollars. The power supply, telephone services and crops are nearly destroyed.
