Paper Soldier (Bumaznyj soldat) by Aleksei German Jr. has been honoured with the Silver Lion statuette for the best direction at the 65th Venice International Film Festival.
The film has also won the Osella award for best cameramans work.
The film directed by Aleksei German Jr. tells about the first steps of the Soviet Union in space exploration and contemplates on that epoch. The picture was highly estimated by critics and the main competition jury headed by the famous German film director Wim Wenders.
The other Russian film selected for the Venice Festival - Wild Field (Dikoe pole) was introduced in the Horizons competition, its author Mikhail Kalatozishvili winning the Art Cinema Award.
