Oldest Russian Icon Restored

Workers of the State Research Institute for Restoration (Moscow) have completed six-year restoration of the oldest in Russia Orthodox icon Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul from the collection of Novgorod State Museum Reserve.
The restoration has been successfully performed; on 7 October the experts will report about the works done to the Restoration Institute Council and following this the issue of returning the icon back to Veliki Novgorod will be considered.
The icon Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul is from the range of anonymous icons. It was painted by a presently unknown painter of Byzantine tradition, a Byzantine of Russian, in the 11th century.
The restored relic is about 2.5 by 1.5 meters large.
