Robert Englund who played Freddie Kruger in the popular horror A Nightmare on Elm Street is going to film a new screen version of Nikolai Gogol’s The Vij in Italy.
The first movie after the same-name classic horror story by Nikolai Gogol was produced in the USSR in 1967, turning into a blockbuster that attracted 32.6 million viewers only in 1968. It has been many times mentioned as the first and the only horror movie made in the USSR, though its authors had intended to create a romantic fairy tale and a screen version of a classic.
It is not the first time that Robert Englund is going to be a film director. Earlier he directed the films 976-EVIL and Killer Pad, rus.postimees.ee informs.
The production of The Vij remake will be launched in 2009.
