Stanis³aw Lem’s unpublished manuscript dedicated to Joseph Stalin has been found in archives of the Polish writer.
The opera Poklonenie (roughly translated from Russian as ‘idolatry’ or ‘deference’; in Polish Korzenie, which can be also translated as submission, humility) was created about 50 years ago, in the late 1940s.
The sensational find was kept in an old grey file under the title Finished Crime.
Among the characters of the opera there is Comrade Stalin, a NKVD agent, a brave Soviet spy, a high-principled Communist lady and a genius scientist. The author writes about the radiant communist future and the genius of Stalin.
The sci-fi writer realizing that he might have to pay for this satire with his life decided to hide the manuscript. And he did it so well, that till the end of his life he could not find this work himself.
