Arctic Subglacial Waters to Be Studied

Russian polar oceanologists have launched Doppler acoustical current profiler at the “North Pole 36” drifting station in order to constantly record dynamic and thermal processes in ocean subglacial waters.

Studies will reveal borders of relatively warm Atlantic waters in the Arctic ocean and define interaction effect of warm and cold currents, affecting climate and weather.

Research also included series of ocean sounding by means of profiler sounders in seven sites of polar waters. Sounding reached depths of 1 kilometer. Polar aerologists performed 28 launches of radio sounders to atmosphere – automates came up to 28 kilometers.

The drifting station drifts northwards over the western slope of the underwater Mendeleev Ridge, located near the North pole. The “North Pole 36” covered 892 kilometers since the expedition started.
