Ukraine to pay its gas debt to Russia by Dec.1

Gazprom denies new supply contracts to Ukraine before that country has paid its natural gas debt. Gazprom put the figure 24 hundred million American dollars. The company told Russian television that it wants to exact the sum before January. Ukraines Naftogaz company said, however, that it owes only 22 and a half hundred million dollars.

After talks between Gazproms CEO Alexei Miller and the head of Ukraines Naftogaz concern Oleh Dubyna on Tuesday Ukraine said it would repay its gas debt to Russia by the 1st of December. Once it is paid off, talks on the implementation of a Russian-Ukrainian memorandum on gas cooperation will resume. Last week, Gazprom said it may charge Ukraine 400 dollars per a thousand cubic meters of gas starting from January.
