Valuev defends his World Boxing Association title

Russian Nikolai Valuev defended his World Boxing Association title by defeating Evander Holyfield in their 12-round heavyweight fight in Zurich Saturday. Now Valuev will face the acting world champion Ruslan Chagaev from Uzbekistan.
The 7-foot Russian, the tallest and heaviest champion ever, struggled to close down Holyfield early but began asserting his jab as Holyfield tired. Valuev scored a majority decision over the American. The two judges who scored the fight for Valuev (50-1) had it 116-112 and 115-114. The judge who scored it a draw saw it, 114-114.
"Of course I am disappointed," Holyfield told the Associated Press. "I thought I had done enough to get the win. Now I have to go home and think about my future." Given that he was competitive in this bout, it is likely that he will continue boxing.
