Archeologists stand up against the planned development of a site of one of the most ancient settlements in Moscow – the former Spas Settlement in the North-West of the city.
      
      The capital’s chief archeologist Alexander Veksler has recently reported to journalists about it.
      “We clamour against development of the site of the former Spas Settlement. Now this issue is disputed, yet the position of archeologists and City of Moscow Cultural Heritage Committee is to save the Spas site for archeological digging and bring issues of the site development to an end” – Mr. Veksler said.
      In the course of archeological research on the site of Spas Settlement Moscow archeologists for the first time defined the boundaries of this historical monument and found remains of an estate building system of the 17th-19th cc. Various copper pendant crosses, fragments of ceramic and glass vessels and other household paraphernalia of the first Muscovites were found there.
