Supposed Study of Gogol Found in Petersburg

Recently in the building of the Patriotic Institute in Vasilyevski Island, where Nikolai Gogol taught history, scientists have found a room in which he assumedly used to get ready for his lectures.

Now a delegation from the Culture Ministry is to define the authenticity of the “Gogol’s study”, the biographer Igor Zolotusskii says.

Yet, the most important thing according to Mr. Zolotusski is that Nikolai Gogol’s grandniece told him about their family legend: it says that when the writer was in Vasilievka Village for the last time, he buried the second volume of the Dead Souls in a hill behind the pond.

The year 2009 has been announced in Russia the year of Nikolai Gogol in honour of his 200th jubilee to be celebrated on the 1st of April.
