Scientists from Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute develop unique materials for reducing friction of moving components of various mechanisms.
Researchers expect nanotechnologies to be a breakthrough in this field, because these technologies allow making materials with necessary properties.
Russian engineers developed a new laser technique, which forms nanostructural coatings based upon carbon and dichalcogenides of transition metals. The technique forms extremely thin composite coatings (3-250 nanometers) and is perfect for controlling atomic and chemical composition of desired material.
Researchers found out that the thinner the coating is, the better it protects materials from friction.
