The museum of Dostoyevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov will be founded in Staraya Russa. This small town of the Novgorod Region became the prototype of the town in the novel, and here most of the chapters of this world famous book were written.
The museum is planned to be located in the town’s Scientific and Research Centre, the building of which was constructed in the first half of the 19th century and is an architectural monument. The new museum will take six rooms. The visitors will see the living room of Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov, the room of Yekaterina Ivanovna Verkhovtseva, the monastic cell of the Elder Zosimus, the kids’ room, the anteroom, and the tavern.
The names of the exhibition halls are relative. Thus, in the exposition of “Yekaterina Ivanovna’s room” one will see exhibits from the funds of the Dostoyevsky House Museum in Staraya Russa, which tell about the life of Russian women in the 19th century.
