Jubilee Kinotavr Festival Kicks Off in Sochi

The 20th Film Festival Kinotavr has started in Sochi. The opening ceremony took place on Sunday, June 7.
      
      The main program includes 12 new Russian films, among them Europe-Asia by Ivan Dykhovichnyj, Oxygen (Kislorod) by Ivan Vyrypayev, Bury me Behind the Plinth (Pokhoronite menya za plintusom) by Sergei Snezhkin, and Sonny (Synok) by Larisa Sadilova. The jury is headed by the well-known producer Sergei Selyanov. The film forum will last for a week.
      
      Two first prizes were awarded at the opening ceremony. The first one was for “an outstanding contribution to Russian film industry”. Mark Rubenstein, the founder of the festival appeared on stage to be handed this prize. The other prize was meant for the recently deceased actor Oleg Yankovskiy, who had headed the festival for many years.
      The public in the hall held a silence minute in honor of the eminent actor’s memory.
