Savva Yamshchikov dies in Pskov

Savva Yamshchikov, the famous art-historian, fine art restorer and publicist dies on July, 19 in the morning in the city of Pskov, where he was working last time. Yamshchikov has recently withstood a surgery in one of the Pskov clinics. He was getting well, but a heart failure happened today in the morning broke his life. Yamshchikov was 70 years old.
      At the age of 20 Savva Yamshchikov was already working in the Russian National Centre of Fine Art Restoration named after Igor Grabar. During his 40-years long career as a fine art restorer, Yamshchikov succeeded in conservation of hundreds medieval icons and few unique collections of the Russian portraits of 18-19th centuries.
      In soviet time Yamshchikov acquainted his contemporaries with the private collections of icons and Russian avant-garde in Moscow and Leningrad. He edited a score of albums, catalogues and books, published hundreds of articles. Savva Yamshchikov was among the first in the USSR who addressed the issue of the restitution of the cultural values.
      Last years Savva Yamshscikov was bidding for the maintenance of the historical character of the ancient city of Pskov. His name is associated with the maintenance of the cultural heritage of Russia.
