Blast and flooding in the power plant: the number of casualties grows

The number of casualties of the explosion and flooding in the water power plant of Sayano-Shushenskaya (Khakasia Republic, Siberia) is growing. Earlier it was reported, that 12 persons died because of the catastrophe. Now the number of casualties grew to 76: 64 missing operators of the station, who was in the main generator hall in the moment of the catastrophe, could be recognized as dead. Finding of the people alive in the main generator hall is next to impossible. In spite of that, the search is going on.
The Sayano-Shushenskaya water power plant, the largest one in Russia, was stopped at 4.15 a.m. (MSK) on Monday, August, 17 after the main generator hall was partly destroyed, which was allegedly caused by the implosion. Two hydropower units took a severe punishment and three ones are blocked with the wreckage of the metal structures.
Now the break in the wall is liquidated, and the flooding stopped. The reconstruction of the main power plant, which produced cheap energy and was environment-friendly, will take more than a year.
The families of the casualties will be recompensed for damages.
