Gennady Shpalikov

The 1st of September will see the unveiling of the monument to outstanding figures of Russian cinematography - Gennady Shpalikov, Vasili Shukshin and Andrei Tarkovsky - in the yard of VGIK (All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography), where they all studied.
They were neither professors of VGIK, nor directors of VGIK, nor members of the academic council, but they had the power to determine the artistic character of the national and world cinema of the second half of the 20th century - the film director Sergei Solovyov, who had also graduated VGIK, said.
The setting of the monument was initiated by students of the institute, and the sculpture composition was created by Alexei Blagovestov.
