Poet Sergey Mikhalkov, the author of three national anthems, has died, aged 97, in Moscow today.
A classic of Russian children’s literature, poet, playwright, writer of fables, and a notable public figure, Sergey Vladimirovich Mikhalkov was born on March 13th (February 28th) 1913 into a family of hereditary noblemen in Moscow.
Works by Sergey Mikhalkov have been published in different languages in Russia and abroad, with the number of printed copies reaching 300 million books. According to the data of the Book Chamber of Russia, around a million copies of his works are published every year.
Sergey Mikhalkov will be most probably buried at Novodevichie Cemetery, where the body of his first wife, Natalya Petrovna Konchalovskaya, lies.
However, the final decision has not been taken, because not all the family members have gathered together yet.
The requiem service and the funeral will be held on Saturday.
