In case of building of the Okhta Centre – a skyscraper of the Gazprom concern – UNESCO will inscribe Saint Petersburg on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
So far the much-spoken-of project Okhta Centre remains a draft. However, if it is approved on the federal level, UNESCO intends to realize its new decision.
Earlier it was informed, that according to the project the Okhta Centre is designed to be 396 meters high. However, by data of the Delovoi Petersburg edition, the investor requested a permission for the height of 403 meters.
In 2007 UNESCO learnt about the planned construction of Okhta Centre from mass media reports, and requested Russia to suspend implementation of the project, being concerned about the fact that a skyscraper would mar the historical environment of the city.
