LEDs to Illuminate St Petersburg

A test territory for street illumination by means of light-emitting diodes will appear in St. Petersburg by the end of 2009.
This illumination type is expected to be introduced not only in city streets, but also in public facilities, such as schools and kindergartens, for instance.
St. Petersburg authorities are strongly convinced that incandescent lamps are extremely ineffective and should be replaced with energy-saving lamps and LEDs. The Minister of Economic Growth encourages banning all incandescent lamps in Russia in 2014.
