Museum of Christ the Saviors Cathedral to Move

The museum of the Christ the Saviors Cathedral is getting ready to move the museum exhibits to other premises.

All the museum exhibits telling about the building, explosion and restoration of the Christ the Saviors Cathedral, will be handed over to storerooms of the Museum of Moscow, and then displayed in new premises. So far it remains unknown if the museum will stay in the church, or it will be divided into two parts.

Christ the Saviors Cathedral was erected as a token of gratitude to God for saving Russian from the Napoleonic invasion in the 19th century. It was built according to the project of architect Konstantin Ton. The construction works lasted for almost 44 years: the church was founded in 1839 and consecrated in 1883. In 1931the church building was demolished by Bolsheviks. The major Christian church symbol of the country was reconstructed on its former place in 1994-1999.
