McDonald's opened its first Russian restaurant right in the center of Moscow – most Muscovites still remember that incredible and endless line of people ready to wait for hours just to try their first hamburger and French fries. Burger King, McDonald's main competitor, comes to the Russian market 20 years later and its first restaurant will be opened in one of Moscow's shopping malls located in outskirts.
Yet, experts believe, the company has good chances to become a well-known and popular brand in Russia, though it may take up to 5 years. The Russian market lacks an alternative fast-food restaurant chain, which can be compared to McDonald's in terms of quality.
Burger King® is the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world. The BURGER KING® system operates approximately 12,000 restaurants in all 50 states and in 73 countries and U.S. territories worldwide. Approximately 90 percent of BURGER KING® restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, many of them family-owned operations that have been in business for decades. In 2008, Fortune magazine ranked Burger King Corp. among America's 1,000 largest corporations and Ad Week named it one of the top three industry-changing advertisers within the last three decades.
