Andrey Tarkovsky Would not Approve Mass Construction of Shopping Centres in Ivanovo
N. Burlyaev and A.Tarkovsky (1964)

The famous actor Nikolay Burlyaev stated at a press-conference on January 15 that he is very anxious about the present condition of the town of Ivanovo.

One the one hand, the town has lots of higher education institutions, but on the other hand, it is spoiled by present mass construction of shopping (instead of cultural) centres.

The thing is that Ivanovo hosts the film festival Mirror named after Andrei Tarkovsky. According to Nikolay Burlyaev, Andrey Tarkovsky would hardly like the present situation in Ivanovo.

As for the festival itself, Nikolay Burlyaev mentioned that he had attended it once and liked everything immensely. However, the festival organizers should be very vigilant not to mar the fair name of Tarkovsky, he emphasized.

“Even I - the closet person of Andrei Arsenevich (what he said himself) did not dare to hold a film festival in his memory” - Burlyaev said.
