500 bear pads arrested on the Russian-Chinese border

The frontier guards in the Jewish Autonomous Region have terminated an attempt of smuggling of 500 pads of the brown and black bears from Russia to neighboring China. The exotic cargo had weight about half a ton. The frontier guards needed two cars to transport the bootleg to the border zone. The people accompanying the cargo were also arrested. One of them is a Russian citizen, other have Chinese citizenship. The investigation has begun. This is not the first attempt to move the bear’s pads across the border. The point is that the bear’s pads are considered as a gourmet item in China and are used for the medical purposes as well. The cost of one pad reaches $1000 at the black market.
