Boris Berezovsky wins libel case over Russian State TV company

Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky won a case over the broadcaster All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) at the High Court in England. VGTRK does not recognize this decision and is ready to appeal at the European Court of Human Rights.

Mr. Berezovsky was awarded 150 thousand pounds ($224,000) at the High Court over a claim made by VGTRK in April 2007 at the television program "News of the Week (Vesty Nedeli). It was an interview with a man named Peter, who claimed that Berezovsky had ordered the murder of former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko. The authors of the report claimed that the oligarch was granted asylum in the UK illegally.

VGTRK doesnt recognize the Courts decision as the company could not participate at the hearings after its refusal to disclose its source of information, said Zoya Matvievskaya, who represented the Russian company at the Court.
