New SPF-vivarium for producing “clean” laboratory animals recently opened in the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of Siberian branch of Russian academy of sciences.
      
      Medics and biologists were waiting for this vivarium for a long time. The SPF-vivarium will produce laboratory mice, free from all diseases, for necessary experiments. SPF means Specific Pathogen Free – these mice are clean from any pathogens, specific for the animals. This is very important for understanding experimental results.
      
      Laboratory animals are kept in sterile atmosphere with triple purification of air. SPF-vivarium provides cryoarchivation – freezing of embryos with specific genotypes for storing in cryobank, and is equipped with up-to-date facilities for examining animals.
