Alexander Dymnikov was born in St. Petersburg in 1961.
He graduated from the Physics Faculty of the Leningrad State University in 1984 and worked as a research associate of the Vavilov Institute till 1992.
Since 1992 Alexander Dymnikov has been professionally engaged in the real estate business. Presently the photographer is the sales director of the Arkada real estate agency, one of teh most reliable ones in St. Petersburg.
For many years he has been into sports mountaineering, with more than 40 mountain and alpine skiing trips done.
In recent years Alexander Dymnikov has indulged in bicycling. In 1999 he and his friends crossed the Himalayas by bicycle. Subsequently the photographer  crossed Iceland, rode along the Arctic coast of Norway, as well as across Italy and the Aland Islands. Nearly every year he kayaks in the Ladoga Lake, the White Sea and the lakes of Karelia. In the spring of 2007 the traveller reached the North Pole by skiing.
Alexander Dymnikov went into photography at school, in the early 1970s. In the mid 1970s he attended a photoclub. His black-and-white mountain landscapes were exhibited at city and all-Union photo exhibitions in those years. His works were twice awarded the 1st degree diplomas at all-Union tourist photo competitions.
His personal exhibitions in St.-Petersburg (2001 and 2003) presented color photos of northern landscapes  (Ladoga, Norway, Iceland, and the Himalayas).
In recent years Alexander Dymnikov has been giving preference to digital technologies of taking, developing and printing photos. High-tech mastery has taken him  back to the black-and-white photography on the new level.
Despite technical revolutionism, Alexander Dymnikov's creative approach remains rather conservative and carries on the traditions that took shape in the St. Petersburg art photography at the end of the 20th century.
Since 2006 he is a member of the Photo Artists Union of Russia.
His photos of Saint Petersburg depict his favourite city with almost no people in it. However his works convey the time spirit, so St. Petersburg looks alive and modern. Alexander Dymnikov manages to find absolutely unexpected camera angles even when shooting well-known scenes and places.
The new series created in the pictorial technique in the parks of St.-Petersburg was presented at his personal exhibition in the state museum "Tsarskoye Selo Collection" of the Pushkin town in May-June, 2007.
