Russian artist, a vivid representative of the 2ns wave Russian avant-garde

      

Eduard Steinberg was born into the family of the poet and translator Arkady Steinberg. He had no vocational art education but was tutored by his father in studies of drawing and painting. After finishing school in the town of Tarusa he worked as a labor man,  a watchman, a navvy, and a fisherman.
The year 1962 saw the first exhibition of Eduard Steinberg in Tarusa.
In the 1970s Eduard Steinberg was a member of the art association Sretensky Boulevard (Moscow).
In 1988 right after his invitation to a French exhibition the Central Committee of the Communist Party gave orders to admit him to the USSR Union of Artists though Eduard Steinberg's attempts to become its member were repeatedly declined for 20 years.
Afterwards the artist lived in Paris, where he had his own studio, as well as in Moscow and Tarusa. From 1988 he regularly collaborated with Claude Bernard Gallery in Paris.
Recognition
Eduard Steinberg is an Honourable citizen of Tarus. A member of the Russian Academy of Arts, he is the holder of the Academy's Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution into development of painting. He is a member of the Order of Friendship (2008). In March, 2012 that marked the 75th anniversary since his birth Eduard Steinberg got the Certificate of RF President's Acknowledgment for his contribution into the Russian and world art.
His works are kept in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the  State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), the "Different Art" Museum (Moscow), Actual Art Museum ART4.RU (Moscow), The New Museum (St. Petersburg), Moscow Museum of Modern Art, as well as in famous museums of Europe and the USA.
