Alla Dukhova is undoubtedly one of the most prominent figures in Latvian and Russian choreography. The Todes ballet headed by her for many years is the paragon of plasticity, grace and dancing mastery. That is why the personality of its permanent director has always been so interesting.
Alla Vladimirovna Dukhova was born in the village of Kos in the Komi-Perm Autonomous District. A year later, the girl's family moved to Riga, Latvia.
It was in Riga, where Alla Dukhova spent her childhood and youth, and first came in touch with choreography.
At the age of 11 Alla joined the folk dance ensemble Ivushka, the teachers o which became the most important professional mentors and life teachers for Alla. The atmosphere of friendliness, respect for other people's talent, hard work - everything that is the hallmark of ballet TODES now, originates from there. She graduated from the stage direction department of the RATI (The Russian Aademy of Theatre Art).
Since childhood Alla Dukhova dreamed of staging choreography performances. At the age of 16 she founded her first dance group Experiment, which included girls only. Experiment gained popularity rather quickly due to its choreography oriented on modern American and Western European schools, which were under the unofficial ban at that time (the early 1980s).
At one of the festivals in Palanga the girls got friendly with Petersburg break dancers. Soon they united into the ballet TODES headed by Alla Dukhova.
From the very first days Alla became its leader and inspirer. For twenty-five years of its existence, Todes has reached unprecedented heights and become a special phenomenon in the Russian and Latvian scene. In different periods it has performed with lots of the Russian and world music stars.
Currently, the talented woman continues to lead the ballet ensemble, as well as several dance schools in Russia and other countries. In addition, she designs her own fashion clothes line.
