Yuri Sergeevich Entin was born on August, 21st, 1935 in Moscow. From school years Yuri took a great interest in literature and history. He graduated from the History Faculty of the Teachers’ Training Institute, and the Editing Faculty in Polygraphic Institute, and later worked as a history teacher and a librarian at school.
From 1962 to 1969 he was the editor-in-chief of children's editorial board of the sound-recording firm Melodia.
Since 1969 he has been a free-lance writer. He writes songs for cinema and TV, scenarios, and books.
Notable composers, such as Gennady Gladkov, Aleklsei Rybnikov, Vladimir Shainsky, Yevgeny Krylatov, Mark Minkov, and David Tumanov wrote music for his lyrics. Lots of Entin’s works were co-authored with the writer and actor Vasily Livanov.
The writer’s talent for instant improvisation became a distinctive feature of Yuri Entin. Time and again there were situations when a work of his had to be refined urgently — and he managed to think up a verse or a phrase which did not only supplement an image or a character, but also became winged afterwards.
Yuri Entin’s works were quite often subject to criticism by creative review committees, banned from publication, release or broadcasting on TV and radio.
In 2004 Yuri Entin organized a concert dedicated to the 35th anniversary of his creative career.
