Born:   July 24, 1966

Russian physicist, professor of the Moscow State University, founder of the website Chronology and Chronography

Mikhail Gorodetsky was born in Moscow on July 24, 1966. In 1989 he graduated from the Physical Faculty of the Moscow State University. In 2001 he maintained a doctoral thesis on  the subject: High Q Resonators in Experimental Physics.
The recognized scientist specializes in optical microresonators, quantum theory of measurement, fundamental mechanisms of dissipation, nonlinear optical effects, and related topics as well. Mikhail Gorodetsky is the author of the monograph Optical Microresonators with Enormous Q-Value and over 60 scientific publications, with most of them in the leading physical magazines (Nature Photonics, Physical Review, etc.). He is one of the most quoted Russian scientists.
Mikhail Gorodetsky works at the Physics of Vibrations Department of the Moscow State University. In the early 1990s he became interested in the "new chronology" theory by the academician A. T. Fomenko, however quite soon he understood that this theory was based on mistakes. Afterwards Mikhail Gorodetsky became its active critic, in particular in discussions on the web. At the same time he got engaged in studies of the history of scientific chronology and the history of astronomical observation. As a result Mikhail Gorodetsky became an expert in these areas.
The translation of Günter Wagner's treatise Scientific Methods of Age Determination in Geology, Archeology and History was published under the editorship and with comments of Mikhail Gorodetsky in 2006. Reedition of D. O. Svyatsky's book Astronomy of Ancient Russia was edited and commented by him in 2007.
