Rimma Fyodorovna Kazakova was born on January 27, 1932 in Sevastopol, into the family of a military man. She spent her early childhood in Belarus and her school years passed in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). The poetess graduated from the History Faculty of Leningrad State University. For seven years Rimma Kazakova lived in the Far East in Khabarovsk, where she worked as a lecturer, a teacher, was a staff member in a newspaper, and at a local film studio. Her first collection of poems “We will meet in the east” was published in Khabarovsk in 1958.

Rimma Kazakova is the author of numerous collections of poems. She was also engaged in translations from foreign languages of the USSR and abroad. Besides, Rimma Kazakova is the author of a number of popular songs. Aleksandra Pakhmutova, Igor Krutoy and other popular Russian composers composed music to set songs to her lyrics.
