Soviet Russian stage and film actor, director, screenwriter, illustrator.

      

Andrei Igorevich Kharitonov was born on July 25, 1959 in Kiev. In 1980 he graduated from the Kiev National University of Theater, Cinema and Television and made debut with the lead as the Gadfly, which immediately gained him enormous popularity. Altogether he played over 30 film roles, among them the leads in The Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta, The Invisible Man, Secret of “Blackbirds”, Free Wind, Life of Klim Samgin and others.

 
From 1984 to 1990 he was the leading actor of the Small Theater of the USSR, where his most remarkable roles were those of Insarov in On the Eve by I.S.Turgenev, Zhadov in A.N.Ostrovsky’s play Lucrative Post, and Gerry Rayan's in Two on a Swing by Gibson.
 
In 1991 he directed the film Thirst for Passion based on short stories by V.Ya.Bryusov and starring Anastasia Vertinskaya, Igor Kostolevsky and V. Rakov. The film was awarded a special prize of the Kinotavr Film Festival in the competition Cinema for the Few in 1991, prizes For Best Visual Solution of a Character and For Director's Debut at the festivals Constellation (1992) and Literature and Cinema (1995).
 
In the second half of the 1990s he was the director of the TV-programs Factory of Dreams (ORT channel) and Films of our Memory (ORT). He was the author and host of the Flash program on Kultura TV channel. In 2007 he was the host of the Introduction telecast on Zvezda TV channel.
 
He worked as a graphic artist making illustrations to the collection of mystical short stories by Tatyana Rassanova in 2003.
He played the leading role in the film Trotter and appeared in the series Cadets based on Kuprin’s writings and directed by I.Chernitsky, Young Wolfhound by O. Fomin, and the telenovel Wedding Ring.
