Oleg Grigoryevich Mityaev was born on February 19, 1956 in Chelyabinsk. He graduated from the Chelyabinsk Assembly Technical College in 1975 and the Chelyabinsk Physical Culture Institute in 1981. In 1991 he became a graduate of GITIS.
Mityaev started composing songs in 1978. When performing at the Ilmen Festival, he sang the song "How Great it is that All of Us Have Gathered Here Today" which became an anthem for all the singers and songwriters of the Soviet Union, and subsequently of Russia. Mityaev's other songs also became popular soon ("You bear up, people, summer is coming soon", "The summer is a small life" and others).
He released lots of records and books with his songs. He was a participant of the Songs of Our Century project. The singer played in four feature and documentary films.
In 2001 he became the winner of the Russian Poetry Fund "Petropol" and the national musical award "Ovation". On October 14, 2002 he was awarded ranks of the Honored Artist of Russia. In 2003 he got the award "Gold Ostap" and the Tsarskoye Selo Art Award.
He is married for the fourth time, and has children from his wives – Sergey (the 1980th year of birth), Philippe (1984), Savva (1998) and Darya (2000). His last spouse is the actress of the Vakhtangov Theatre Marina Esipenko.
