The famous Russian photographer Alexey Nikishin is one of the most memorable and recognizable masters of modern black-and-white art photo.
Alexey Nikishin was born in Moscow in 1976. After graduation from the university with honors, he worked in the field of advertising and internet for a long time. In 2000 he quit work in the field of design to dedicate himself to Photography. Starting with portraits, nudes, fashion, and genre, he studied works by world photo masters at the same time. Gradually Alexey concentrated on portrait. The Portrait attracts him most of all with its depth and ambiguity.
"The portrait is great happiness of touching the innermost realm of the person, his or her talent, sensuality, and internal beauty. Sometimes the portrait opens up a person so much that the image attains amazing self-standing magic power. To reject everything superfluous to see the real — that is the philosophical sense of the project", - the photographer points out.
In 2007 Alexey Nikishin started his first large photoproject "As Myself", which involved Russian rock music stars and actors. This is when the author's famous style took shape. Black-and-white portraits of stars, absolutely non-typical for the Russian magazine luster, perfectly highlight sincere emotions and powerful characters of the stars, free from the luster that the general public is used to. All of that looked like a challenge to the Russian journal photography. This is how the first "psychological portraits" (true portrate) of the Russian stars were born.
The year of 2008 saw two personal exhibitions of Alexey Nikishin in the Moscow exhibition center WINZAVOD. 12 exhibitions of his works took place in art museums and galleries of Russia and abroad from 2011 to 2012.
Alexey Nikishin teaches his author's lecture cycle Modern Photography at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and holds lectures around Russia and abroad. He is the winner of the international award Photograph Of The Year of the International Color Awards and the Gold Medal of Trierenberg Super Circuit. Alexey Nikishin is a member of the International Federation of Artists (IFA UNESCO), the RF Creative Union of Artists and the RF Union of Pictorialists. He contributes to the magazines Billboard, GQ, Rolling Stone, Psychology, and Caravan. His analytical articles on photography are regularly published in the Digital Photo, PhotoStudio and Zoom magazines.
