 Sophia Parnok

Born:   August 11, 1885
Deceased:   August 26, 1933

Russian poetess and translator

Sophia Yakovlevna Parnok first appeared in press in 1906. Her first collection of poems “Stihotvorenia” (Poems) was published in Moscow in 1916 and met quite positive response of critics.

In recent years Sophia Parnok, deprived of the opportunity to be published, like many other poets, earned her living by translations. The cultural atmosphere and way of life of the 1920-1930s were very hard for her to endure.
