Lidiya Nikandrovna Verkhovskaya studied under Ya. F. Tsionglinsky at Drawing School of Society for the Encouragement of Artists in St.Petersburg. She was a member of The New Association of Artists, Moscow Artists’ Association and the World of Art group.
Lidiya Verkhovskaya painted subtle lyrical landscapes and portraits. Besides, she illustrated children's books (such as Green Collection of Poetry and Prose, Wonderful Ring, Folk Fairy Takes by P. S. Solovyova, etc.).
Her works are kept in the State Russian Museum (Segovia, Spanish Yard of Toledo), the Perm Art Gallery (Interior of Old Mansion, Architectural Landscape), and the Sverdlovsk Art Gallery (The Bridge).
