The 9-th of May is the day of victory in the Second World War, which was the Great Patriotic war for Russians (1941-1945 years). This day all Russians remember people who fought for the victory and reached the independence and freedom from German fascism. A lot of people heroically defend the Motherland, without their deeds our country would not have saved the independence from invaders. Of course, some of them are not alive but we love, remember and respect them all.

A survey says most Russians believe alcohol abuse is their most negative character trait(!). 22% of 1800 respondents believe it is so, while 20% claim Russian's curse is their laziness.

The Jewish-born political revolutionary Fanny Kaplan was shot at the age of 28 for an attempted assassination of Vladimir Lenin. She approached the Leader near a Moscow factory and fired three shots at him. Some historians question the actual role of Fanny Kaplan in the crime and many consider the Kaplan legend as another Bolshevik canard.
