Museum-Reserve Tanais

The Museum-Reserve Tanais is the largest archaeological museum-reserve in Russia. It is situated 35km to the west of Rostov. Its territory (more than 3000 hectares) includes an ensemble of historical and cultural monuments belonging to different times and nations starting from the Upper Paleolithic Period and ending with the architectural monuments of the 19th century: the Stone Ravine, the fortress Lyutik (17-18th centuries), the Church of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, one of the best village temples of the Don Region, Nedvigovka mansion, a bright example of ancient architectural ensembles of Cossack villages, etc.
