Bratsk is a town in Russia in the Irkutsk Region.
It stands on the bank of the Bratsk Water Reservoir on River Angara.
Bratsk is located at the distance of 983 km (by train) or 618 km (by car) or 500 km (by air) from Irkutsk. The population of Bratsk makes about 246 thousand people (according to the national population census of 2010).
Modern Bratsk was built in 1955 due to construction of Bratsk Hydroelectric Power Station, to the north of the ancient settlement Bratsk founded by Russians as a stockade town in 1631. On December, 12th the workers’ settlement Bratsk was transformed by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme body of RSFSR into a town of regional submission.
The town has a number of museums: the open-air Architecture and Ethnography Museum “Angarsk Village”, the Bratsk Associated Museum of the History of Angara Development, and Bratsk Art Exhibition Hall.
To the east of Bratsk there lies Bratsk Coast - a climatic resort area at the coast of the Bratsk water basin. The mineral water resort treats patients with diseases of cardiovascular system and nervous system.
