Cherdakly is a Russian urban-type settlement, the administrative center of the Cherdakly District of the Ulyanovsk Region. It is located in a forest-steppe terrain 35 km away from the regional center.

It has the population of 11 442 people (as of 2014).

History of Cherdakly

It was founded by service class Tatars, natives of the Penza District in 1688. The first dwellers of the village were the Tatars and the Mordovians. For many years the settlers served as watchman Cossacks on the village borders. Later on the need for guard service disappeared and Cherdakly became a usual village.

It got the status of an urban-type settlement in 1957.

Kuibyshev railroad and Highway P178 Saransk — Ulyanovsk — Dimitrovgrad — Samara run through Cherdakly.
