How to get there and away


Smolensk is on the Moscow-Minsk-Warsaw railway with several daily trains to/from Moscow (6 hours), Minsk (4 hours), Brest (8 hours), Warsaw (12 hours), Prague (26 hours) and Kaunas (10 hours), as well as trains every other day to Riga (11.5 hours) and a weekly train to Berlin (41 hours).


Smolensk bus station serves most of the regions smaller towns with frequent daily services, and several times daily service to Moscow.


By road its 390km to Moscow, and 330km to Minsk. Both are among Russias bets highways.
