    Azov

Azov is a Russian port on the Don River’s delta near the Sea of Azov. It came under Kievan Rus in the 10th century, became a Genoese colony in the 13th century, and passed to the Turks in 1471. The Don Cossacks held the city (1637–1642), but were driven out by the Turks. Peter the Great captured the city in 1696. At present, the city has two main attractions: Azov Fort and an interesting museum containing exhibits on Cossack life and history.
