Novomichurinsk is a town in the Pronya District of the Ryazan Region. It is located in the north of Oka-Don Plain, on the right bank of River Pronya (influx of Oka), 20 km away from the railway station of Birkino, 85 km to the south of Ryazan.
The town with the population of 17 586 people (as of 2014) takes the area of 26 sq km.
History of Novomichurinsk
It was founded as a settlement of the builders of the Ryazan State District power station in 1968. Novomichurinsk became a town in 1981.
It was named after the selector I.V. Michurin (1855-1935) who was born near Novomichurinsk and started his research on plant growing there.
