Belorechensk is a Russian town, the administrative center of the Belorechensk District of the Krasnodar Krai.
The town stands on River Belaya (the left inflow of the Kuban River), at its entrance from the mountains of Greater Caucasus to the Kubano-Priazovsky (Prikubansky) Lowland, 95 km to the southeast of Krasnodar. It has the Belorecheskaya railway station.
Belorechensk is famous for its Velikovechnoye balneo-climatic resort area and the Velikovechnensky fluoric mineral water.
The town of Belorechensk has the overall area of 34 sq.km and the population of 53 042 people (as of 2013).
History of Belorechensk
It was founded in 1863 (1862?) as a Cossack fortress, later turned into Belorechensky village. It was named after its location on the Belaya River. It has been the town of Belorechensk since 1958.
Economy
Belorechensk has enterprises of the flavoring and food industry (Russia’s only oil extraction plant processing castorbean for castor oil production, dairy plant, etc.), woodworking industry (a furniture factory, and a forest combine), production of phosphoric mineral fertilizers, construction materials and two brick factories.
The Belorechensky District keeps one of the hydroelectric power stations of the Belorechensky Cascade.
The district agriculture was for a long time focused on supply of milk, meat and vegetables to the city of Sochi, the fact determining its specialization. They crop wheat, barley, corn, rice, sunflower, colza, sugar beet, tobacco, and vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, and capsicum) in the area. Production of seeds of various vegetable cultures, dairy and meat cattle breeding, pig-breeding, and poultry farming takes place in the Belorechensk District.
Fields of sand-gravel mixes are found in the vicinity of the town.
Architecture and Sights
Near Belorechensk there are Belorechensky barrows (burials of the local nobility and soldiers combatants with families) of the 14th century.
