Livny is a Russian city (since 1586), the administrative center of the Livensky municipal district in the Oryol Region.
Livny is the second largest and economically developed city of the Oryol Region.
The city of Livny is recognized to be one of the most well-planned cities of Russia in the 3rd category (the 2nd place in 2008 and the 3rd place in 2007).
Livny is located at the confluence of River Livenka and Sosna (inflow of Don), in the southeast of the Oryol Region. Highway P119 (Oryol - Tambov) and the railroad Marmyzhi — Verkhovye runs through Livny.
The overall area of the city makes 34,0 sq km.
The oldest of the remaining history and architecture monuments of Livny is the St. Sergius Cathedral of the Archbishop of Orlov and Livny constructed in the 17th century. Besides there are lots of buildings of various functions built at the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries in the centre of the city.
