Bolkhov is a Russian city, the administrative center of Bolkhov District of the Oryol Region. Its population makes 11 201 people (as of 2015).
The city stands on the river Nugr (inflow of Oka), on the highway P92 Oryol — Belyov at the distance of 55 km to the north of Oryol. It takes the area of 11,8 square km.
The city stands on the high bank of River Nugr and towers over it more than 70 meters. The river twists around the city thus creating several picturesque view points in Bolkhov.
In 1917 Bolkhov had 28 parish churches and two monasteries. Most of them were destroyed in the Soviet era, but nowadays 12 of them have been reconstructed.
Modern buildings of the city are generally wooden. By the number of churches and civil structures Bolkhov ranks among the first in Central Russia.
